Nature Reserve

Within our site is a 40 acre Nature Reserve designed to embody the Native Preserve concept by providing a lushly protected and unspoiled array of the plants and wildlife that are found throughout the island.

While there has been no official designation yet, the Reserve is designed as a category 1b and VI protected area by definition of IUCN, the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

The main objectives for the management of this area in =accordance with IUCN definitions is the following:

  • Protection of Nature and Wilderness
  • Preservation of Species and Genetic Diversity
  • Provision of Environmental Services
  • Maintenance and Protection of specific natural and Cultural features
  • Tourism and Recreation
  • Education
  • Sustainable use of resources from natural ecosystems

Other simple objectives of the Reserve are bird watching, photography, and the reclamation of endangered flora.
