Cultural Significance

What makes able to be the only Native Preserve in the world, has as much to do with our culture as it does with our nature.

It is man’s relationship with nature and the simplicity and spirituality that grew from that relationship that is celebrated at Mystic Cove.

Our dependency from ancient Mayan cultures that ruled most of Central America, brings a culture rich with centuries old mysticism, and a reverence of nature as “gods”.

Our settlement by the Garifuna incorporates rituals and customs traceable to Africa. Their songs and dance help define our identity, and we learn from the practical application of nature to their way of life on the island.
